Narthex Sparkhill is a charity set up by St. John’s Anglican Church in Sparkhill.  The Heart of Narthex work is to meet the culturally diverse needs of our local communities, providing quality facilities that offer a place of welcome. One aspect of our work is with Older people in our community.

Tuesday

Good Companion Lunch Club

Senior Citizen Lunch Club At £6 a session is a great place for companionship, good food and fun. Our senior participants also enjoy trips and meals out which includes and annual christmas meal in a local restaurant. We endeavour to visit people when they are sick or in hospital and offer home support to our seniors in an effort to keep them living independently in their own homes.

Wednesday

‘Sit and Be Fit Exercise Café

10:30 am - 12:00 pm

This class is primarily for the over 55’s.  It’s aim is to improve fitness without hurting joints, improve memory and ultimately to have FUN! Participants are encouraged to stay afterwards for tea and a chat.

Parish Nurse Support

Our Parish Nurse is a registered nurse, supporting people in our communities towards whole person healthcare through Narthex and St John’s Church.  Whole person healthcare is about a person’s overall well-being.  Our nurse supports people across most of our projects through health advice, diabetes tests, blood pressure, caring for seniors and advising on other worries and concerns.

Friday

A Place of Welcome

12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
St John's Church, Sparkhill, St Johns Rd, Birmingham B11 4RG

This session is open to absolutely everyone on weekly basis. You can choose to either drop in if you are in the area but it will be even better should you choose to stay for the full session.

This is a safe space where we have a variety of discussions and practical involvement, listen to music, play a variety of games for relaxation and mental wellbeing.

We are also able to signpost to other in-house projects or local agencies if you require support.

We have recently introduced ‘Reading for Wellbeing’ on a monthly basis within this session.

Light refreshments are available.

Tea Dance

21st February 2018
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The first Tea Dance was arranged on Valentine’s Day for over 50’s, with live music, cream teas and themed decorations.  Our new bi-monthly Tea Dancing has become a real hit.  Another opportunity for fun and friendship for people in the local community and a great way to get physical exercise without knowing it.  They have become a time of real fun & creating happy memories.
